In August 2025, photojournalist Victor Moriyama captured this scene on the outskirts of Rio Branco, the capital of Acre, a state in the far northwest of the Brazilian Amazon.
As a row of trucks in the background carries piles of wood freshly logged from the rainforest, employees of Primaz Energia Solar, a local solar energy provider, installed solar panels on the roof of a small market.
The photograph is part of the series “Black Carbon,” produced in partnership with Climate Visuals and the Clean Air Fund.
