Alibaba weighs acquiring Pupu in quick-commerce battle with Meituan

Move comes as regulators warn platform companies to rein in price competition

Alibaba is weighing whether to acquire grocery delivery platform Pupu, though the latter says it is not a given that it would agree to a deal. 

HONG KONG -- Chinese e-commerce leader Alibaba Group is weighing an acquisition of Fujian-based on-demand fresh grocery delivery platform Pupu, a move that could bolster its competitiveness against food delivery giant Meituan in China's fast-growing quick-commerce market, people familiar with the matter told Nikkei Asia.
