Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, said lasting stability in the Persian Gulf requires “credible guarantees” against further attacks on Iran.

Addressing a Security Council session, he said security could only be achieved through “a durable and permanent cessation of aggression against Iran, supplemented by credible guarantees of non-recurrence and full respect for the legitimate sovereign rights and interests of Iran.”

Speaking afterwards, Iravani criticised the United States over its naval blockade, accusing it of acting “like pirates and terrorists” by targeting commercial vessels.

He also said international criticism had focused on Iran while ignoring US actions in the region.
