White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said senior US officials are reviewing an Iranian proposal to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
She said President Donald Trump has met with his national security team to discuss the offer.
The proposal reportedly includes reopening the waterway in exchange for future talks on Iran’s nuclear programme.
Leavitt said Trump’s red lines on Iran’s nuclear ambitions remain “very, very clear”.
