Legend of the Seas. There’s something fitting about stepping aboard one of the world’s biggest cruise ships and finding yourself inside the whimsical world of Willy Wonka.
When Legend of the Seas, Royal Caribbean’s newest Icon Class ship, makes its debut this summer, one of its signature entertainment experiences will be the hit Broadway musical Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory — bringing the beloved story to life for thousands of passengers before the ship eventually sails to the Caribbean.
The production will headline the entertainment lineup aboard Legend of the Seas, which officially enters service in Europe in July before relocating to Fort Lauderdale later this year for a season of Caribbean cruises.
For families, it adds another marquee Broadway-style show to Royal Caribbean’s growing entertainment portfolio, joining productions that have become a hallmark of the line’s newest ships.
Based on Roald Dahl’s classic novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory follows young Charlie Bucket as he wins a coveted Golden Ticket and enters the fantastical chocolate factory of the mysterious Willy Wonka.
The Broadway adaptation features elaborate sets, colorful costumes, original songs alongside favorites from the classic film and plenty of larger-than-life special effects — making it a natural fit aboard one of the world’s most ambitious cruise ships.
Royal Caribbean says the musical will serve as one of the headline entertainment offerings on Legend of the Seas, complementing a ship designed around families and multigenerational vacations.
Following its inaugural European season, Legend of the Seas will reposition to Fort Lauderdale in November, beginning a series of Caribbean sailings.
The ship will operate 6-night Western Caribbean cruises along with 8-night Southern Caribbean itineraries, with many voyages including a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island destination in The Bahamas.
For North American cruisers, the arrival marks the first opportunity to experience both the newest Icon Class ship and its exclusive entertainment lineup without crossing the Atlantic.
Legend is the latest addition to Royal Caribbean’s rapidly expanding Icon Class, a collection of ships built around immersive neighborhoods, expansive water attractions and entertainment designed for every generation.
Onboard, you’ll find eight distinct neighborhoods, more than 40 places to eat and drink, expansive pool decks, water slides, family attractions and a lineup of stage productions that rivals many land-based theaters.
The addition of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory reinforces Royal Caribbean’s emphasis on Broadway-caliber entertainment as a defining part of the vacation, giving families another reason to arrive early for showtime after a day exploring Caribbean beaches.
As Legend of the Seas prepares to sail its first Caribbean voyages later this year, one of the world’s most famous stories is coming along for the ride — complete with Golden Tickets, chocolate dreams and a little Wonka magic at sea.
